Domaine Anne Gros: A Burgundy Legacy Rooted in Vosne-Romanée

Domaine Anne Gros, nestled in the iconic Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, is a family-run estate that has become synonymous with the highest quality of wines. The estate was established by Alphonse Gros in 1830, and today, Anne Gros represents the sixth generation to manage the domain. Taking over from her father François Gros in 1988, Anne doubled the estate’s size from 3 to 6.5 hectares, incorporating prestigious plots like Richebourg, Clos Vougeot, and Échezeaux. She is also mother to Julie, Paul, and Marine, who began inheriting the estate in 2019, representing the seventh generation of Gros winemakers.

Winemaking Philosophy: A Balance Between Intuition and Sustainability

Anne Gros is known for her “intuitive, thoughtful, and reasonable” approach to viticulture. She emphasizes minimal intervention, always adapting her methods based on the health of her vines, soil conditions, and the climate. Committed to preserving biodiversity and limiting environmental impacts, Anne focuses on issues like soil compaction and reducing chemical inputs. This sustainable mindset extends to the vineyard, where biodynamic principles guide farming practices.

All grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. The reds are vinified in cement tanks, while the whites ferment in stainless steel. Anne carefully ages her wines in oak barrels—up to 80% new oak for Grand Crus like Richebourg, 50% for village wines, and 30% for regional wines. This method ensures that the oak never overpowers the wines, allowing the terroir to shine through.

A Respected Winemaker in Burgundy

Anne Gros’ journey into winemaking was not without its challenges. As the only daughter of François Gros, she took over the estate at just 25 years old. At the time, some doubted her ability to manage such a prestigious domain. However, her blend of sensitivity, professionalism, and talent quickly silenced skeptics. Having initially pursued arts, Anne transitioned to viticulture and oenology, studying in Beaune and Dijon, where she cultivated her deep passion for wine.

Her investment in a new cellar has modernized the estate while maintaining its traditional charm. As a mother of three, Anne has impressively balanced her roles as both a dedicated winemaker and caregiver, demonstrating a deep personal commitment to her family’s legacy.

Exceptional Terroirs and Wines

The estate encompasses some of Burgundy’s most celebrated terroirs. Her Grand Crus—Richebourg, Clos Vougeot, and Échezeaux—are world-renowned for their complexity, elegance, and aging potential. Village wines such as Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux and Chambolle-Musigny also display the meticulous attention to detail that Anne brings to her work. The domaine’s wines are known for their finesse, rich aromatics, and perfectly integrated tannins, making them highly sought after by collectors and wine lovers globally.
Legacy and Expansion

Anne has expanded her winemaking horizons beyond Burgundy by partnering with Jean-Paul Tollot to establish Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot in the Minervois region of Southern France. This partnership reflects her desire to explore different terroirs and winemaking techniques while staying rooted in the traditions of Burgundy.

Domaine Anne Gros is an enduring symbol of Burgundy’s winemaking heritage, with each bottle offering a pure and authentic expression of the region’s world-class terroirs.
