Domaine du Granit: A Family Legacy in Beaujolais

Domaine du Granit, located in Chénas, is a historic estate known for its high-quality wines in the Beaujolais region. The family has been cultivating vines since 1918, and today, the estate is run by the fourth generation of winemakers, who combine traditional techniques passed down from their ancestors with modern innovations. The estate specializes in some of the most prestigious Beaujolais appellations, including Chénas, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, and Saint-Amour.

Vineyard and Terroir

Spanning 12 hectares, Domaine du Granit’s vineyards thrive on granite-rich soils, contributing to the unique minerality and complexity of the wines. The terroir includes saprolite rock with quartz and manganese, providing a well-drained environment for their primary grape, Gamay. The vines, some as old as 50 years, are densely planted, and yields are kept low to ensure concentration of flavors. Sustainable viticulture is practiced, including soil plowing and grassing to naturally enhance soil life.

Winemaking Philosophy

Domaine du Granit is committed to traditional winemaking methods, with all harvests done by hand. Grapes are carefully sorted both in the vineyard and the winery to ensure only the best quality fruit is used. Depending on the cuvée, the grapes undergo maceration for 10 days to three weeks, with fermentation typically occurring with natural or starter yeasts. The wines are aged in a combination of oak barrels, foudres, and cement vats for 7 to 22 months, allowing for a balanced expression of fruit and terroir.

Signature Wines

The estate offers a range of wines that reflect the diverse characteristics of their terroirs:

Chénas Cuvée Prestige: Known for its rich, fruity profile with firm tannins, this wine exemplifies the power and finesse of the Chénas appellation.
Moulin-à-Vent Cuvée Tradition: A structured and complex wine, aged in oak to develop depth, it is one of the estate’s flagship offerings.
Fleurie Les Garants: This wine showcases the elegance of the Fleurie appellation with delicate floral notes and a smooth texture.

Domaine du Granit is open to visitors, offering tastings by appointment, making it a perfect stop for those wanting to explore the beautiful Beaujolais vineyards and taste their remarkable wines.
