Domaine Alvina Pernot: A New Generation in Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in 2018, Domaine Alvina Pernot is a rising star in the heart of Burgundy, specifically in Puligny-Montrachet. Alvina Pernot, the granddaughter of famed winemaker Paul Pernot, grew up immersed in the winemaking traditions of her family. After working alongside her father and grandfather at Domaine Paul Pernot, she and her husband Philippe Abadie decided to strike out on their own, creating a domaine that reflects their personal vision and passion for wine.

Ambition and Tradition

Although the estate is relatively new, Alvina and Philippe have continued to rely on their family’s vineyards to source much of their fruit, particularly from prestigious appellations like Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Corton-Charlemagne. Their initial vintage consisted of just 11 appellations, but this has grown to 16 as they expanded their operations. Despite their growth, they maintain a focus on quality over quantity, producing just 25,000 bottles annually.

Vineyard Practices

Domaine Alvina Pernot employs sustainable viticultural practices, avoiding chemical treatments and opting for light plowing to preserve soil health. Grapes are handpicked, carefully sorted, and pressed in either pneumatic or vertical presses, depending on the cuvée. The wines are aged in oak barrels for up to 11 months, with a conscious effort to limit the use of new oak to avoid masking the terroir’s distinct characteristics.
The Wines

Alvina and Philippe’s wines are known for their taut, mineral-driven style, embodying the purity and elegance of Burgundy’s finest Chardonnay. Their portfolio includes iconic appellations such as Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, and Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes. Each wine reflects a distinct expression of its terroir, with a focus on freshness, minerality, and balance.

Domaine Alvina Pernot’s wines are already gaining recognition for their precision and refinement, making them a name to watch in the world of white Burgundy.
