Domaine Sirugue-Noëllat: A Union of Tradition and Innovation
Like many prestigious wine estates in Burgundy, Domaine Sirugue-Noëllat is a family affair, but this estate holds a special story. Born from the marriage of Sophie Noëllat and Arnaud Sirugue, two deep-rooted wine families, this domaine reflects a union of not only two people but also two rich winemaking traditions.
If Vosne-Romanée is often considered Burgundy’s Heaven, then Sophie and Arnaud are truly a “match made in Heaven”. Sophie comes from the renowned Domaine Michel Noëllat, while Arnaud hails from Domaine Robert Sirugue—two iconic estates separated by just a stone’s throw. Their shared project, Domaine Sirugue-Noëllat, has now found a home in Vosne-Romanée, across from Maxime Cheurlin and right next to the historic René Engel House, on the square in front of the village’s City Hall.
Heritage and Expertise
Sophie represents the 6th generation of winemakers from the Noëllat family, while Arnaud carries the legacy of the 5th generation from the Sirugue family. Together, they’re not only raising their children but also cultivating extraordinary wines that capture the essence of the Côte de Nuits.
The first vintage of the estate was produced in 2016, a pivotal year that marked their new beginning. They launched with two cuvées:
Bourgogne Passetougrain Rosé, made from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir grown in the village. After training at Domaine Minuty in Provence, Arnaud was inspired to create a fun and easy-drinking wine for gatherings with family and friends. Their vineyards, planted with both Gamay and Pinot Noir on the plateau below the village, provided the perfect foundation for this project.
Vosne-Romanée, sourced from their family plot in Les Barreaux, along the border of Cros Parantoux. Their 2016 Vosne-Romanée was a learning experience—initially, the mention of “Les Barreaux” was missing from the label, but this was corrected by 2018, and the vineyard’s name has appeared on the bottles ever since.
Expanding the Portfolio
In 2018, Domaine Sirugue-Noëllat added two new wines to its range:
Gevrey-Chambertin “En Champs”
Meursault “Les Grands Charrons”, Arnaud’s first attempt at crafting a white wine, which exceeded all expectations and impressed even the most discerning tasters.
These wines demonstrate the couple’s expertise and vision as they explore different terroirs within Burgundy, always with a focus on preserving the quality and authenticity of their fruit.
A Tiny Cellar with Big Ambitions
Their wines are crafted in a small cellar under Arnaud’s grandfather’s house. Though modest in size, this cellar has already become an insider’s secret, attracting discerning palates eager to experience the superb quality of their wines. Quantities are extremely limited, but there is great hope that, as Sophie and Arnaud expand their vineyard holdings, they will soon establish themselves as a rising force in the Côte de Nuits.
As these pieces come together, it is truly exciting to watch the evolution of Domaine Sirugue-Noëllat. Their passion, deep-rooted heritage, and innovative approach promise a bright future for this young estate.
